Iran has praised Ireland’s decision to ban imports from Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian territories, calling it a significant step toward enforcing international law and holding Israel accountable.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, said the move reflects a shift from “rhetoric to action” regarding the legality of Israeli settlements. He referenced a 2004 International Court of Justice ruling that declared the settlements illegal under international law.
The remarks come as several European countries consider stronger measures against settlement-related trade and activities. Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten also announced plans to suspend economic transactions linked to settlements in the occupied West Bank and Golan Heights.
Meanwhile, Palestinian officials reported a rise in attacks and property destruction in the occupied West Bank during 2025, including damage to farmland and the uprooting of thousands of trees.
According to Palestinian figures, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, while thousands more have reportedly been injured or detained.
