Iranian and Omani officials have held a legal and technical meeting in Muscat to discuss security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, alongside broader issues of sovereignty and navigation rights in the strategic waterway.
The Iranian delegation, led by the Director General for International Legal Affairs at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, met with Omani counterparts as part of ongoing consultations between the two countries on regional stability and bilateral relations.
Both sides reportedly emphasized their respective sovereign rights and jurisdictional considerations over the strait, noting its importance as a shared maritime corridor under international law.
During the visit, the Iranian delegation also held discussions with Oman’s Foreign Minister, focusing on diplomatic coordination and regional developments. Officials from the International Maritime Organization were also present for technical consultations on maritime safety and shipping regulations.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes, remains a key focus of regional diplomacy due to its narrow geography and overlapping maritime claims between coastal states.
Iranian officials have recently reiterated their interpretation of maritime boundaries in the area, describing it as a strategically sensitive zone requiring strict regulatory control. Military officials have also spoken about expanded operational considerations in the region.
The talks come amid heightened regional tensions and broader international debates over maritime security, energy transport, and freedom of navigation in the Gulf.
