A senior Hezbollah lawmaker has declared that the group will continue resisting Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, as cross-border violence and air raids escalate across the region.
Hassan Fadlallah, a member of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, said ongoing Israeli attacks are aimed at occupying territory and forcing residents from their homes. Speaking to Lebanese media on Friday, he insisted that resistance remains the only option in the face of what he described as growing aggression.
“We are confronting an assault targeting our land and our people. There is no alternative but resistance and steadfastness,” Fadlallah said.
The comments come amid intensified Israeli airstrikes and ground operations in southern Lebanon, including areas north of the Litani River. Lebanese officials and humanitarian organisations say residential neighbourhoods, health centres and emergency response facilities have been hit during the latest escalation.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, thousands of people have been killed or wounded since the fighting intensified earlier this year. Emergency workers and paramedics have also reportedly been among the casualties.
Fadlallah said Hezbollah’s strategy is focused on preventing Israeli forces from establishing long-term control in southern Lebanese territory. He added that the group intends to continue military operations even if Israeli troops advance deeper into border villages.
The Hezbollah official also accused the United States of supporting Israel politically and militarily, while criticising ongoing diplomatic talks involving Lebanese and Israeli officials.
The renewed violence has raised fears of a broader regional conflict, with international efforts to restore calm showing little progress. Humanitarian agencies have warned that continued fighting is worsening civilian suffering and damaging critical infrastructure across southern Lebanon.
Analysts say tensions remain high as both sides exchange attacks and diplomatic negotiations struggle to produce a ceasefire agreement.
