A 28-year-old woman, Firdausi Musa, along with her two children and her husband, has suffered severe burns after her co-wife allegedly set them on fire in Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred late Monday night in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis, where the co-wife, identified as Maryam Muhammad, is accused of pouring petrol on the victims before igniting it.
Residents say the attack has left the community in shock, while the suspect is currently in police custody at the Mariri Police Division.
Firdausi Musa and her two children, Khadija (7) and Ismail (3), are receiving medical treatment at different hospitals in Kano, including the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. The husband, who reportedly tried to rescue them, also sustained injuries and is being treated.
A family member said the attack followed tensions within the household, noting that Firdausi had recently moved into the marriage and had previously complained about threats from the co-wife.
Another relative claimed the victim had reported being intimidated before the incident, and that she later identified the co-wife as responsible for the attack while receiving treatment.
Authorities from the Kano State Police Command had not issued an official statement at the time of filing this report.
