Bauchi APC Guber Primary: Tuggar, Wunti Lose as Ex-Gov Abubakar Wins Ticket

In Bauchi State, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) official Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti have failed in their bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 elections.

The party’s governorship primary, which experienced delays before conclusion, was announced on Saturday morning by AIG John Abang (rtd), who chaired the APC Primary Election Committee for Bauchi State.

According to the results, former Governor Mohammed Abubakar emerged winner after polling 57,517 votes, defeating six other contenders.

Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro scored 13,638 votes. Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti followed closely with 13,648 votes. Other aspirants included Kabir Baba Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi with 7,181 votes.

The outcome marks a return of Abubakar as the party’s flag bearer, setting up a possible rematch in a state where the incumbent governor, Bala Mohammed, previously defeated him in the 2019 governorship election.

Tuggar had recently stepped down from his ministerial role in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive that cabinet members seeking elective office must resign ahead of political contests.

The APC now prepares for the general election with Abubakar as its candidate, while internal party realignments continue following the primary outcome.
