Iran has accused the United States of carrying out unlawful actions at sea, claiming that Washington is engaging in what it described as “piracy-like” behavior against Iranian-linked commercial shipping.
According to Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, U.S. forces have intercepted and seized Iranian-associated vessels on international waters, an act Tehran says violates international law and the United Nations Charter.
The Iranian envoy alleged that these operations amount to an illegal blockade and represent hostile conduct targeting Iran’s economy, particularly its oil shipments. He further argued that such actions constitute aggression under international legal standards.
Tehran maintains that the U.S. is violating the principle of freedom of navigation by disrupting maritime trade routes and detaining vessels without legitimate legal justification.
Iran warned that it reserves the right to respond appropriately under international law to defend its shipping interests and safeguard its maritime activities.
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between the two countries in strategic waterways, where both sides have repeatedly accused each other of destabilizing maritime security.
