Short Jummah Khutbah in English ( Mercy to Humanity)

Khutbah: Mercy to Humanity (Rahmah lil-‘Alamin).

In Islam, mercy (rahmah) is one of the greatest qualities encouraged for every believer. 

It is rooted in the nature of Allah Himself, who is repeatedly described in the Qur’an as Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful) and Ar-Raheem (The Especially Merciful). 

Mercy is not limited to Muslims alone — it extends to all of humanity and all creation.

First Khutbah:

All praise is due to Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful. We praise Him, seek His help, and ask for His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and from our wrong deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whomsoever He leaves astray, none can guide.

I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, and I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger — the one sent as a mercy to all of creation.

O servants of Allah, fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except in a state of Islam.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Allah سبحانه وتعالى says in the Qur’an:

> “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:107)

This verse defines the mission of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — a mission of mercy, compassion, and kindness to all of humanity, regardless of religion, race, or status.

The Prophet ﷺ showed mercy in every aspect of his life. He was merciful to the poor, the orphan, the weak, and even to his enemies. When he was harmed and rejected, he still chose forgiveness over revenge. When he conquered Makkah, he declared general amnesty, saying: “No blame will there be upon you today.”

Servants of Allah,

Mercy is not just a feeling — it is an action. It is how we speak, how we treat others, and how we respond to injustice. The Prophet ﷺ said:

> “The merciful are shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth, and the One above the heavens will have mercy upon you.”

This includes showing kindness to:

Our family members and neighbors

The poor and those in need

People of other communities

Even animals and the environment

A believer is not harsh, arrogant, or cruel. Rather, a believer reflects the character of the Prophet ﷺ — gentle, forgiving, and compassionate.

Second Khutbah:

All praise is due to Allah.

O Muslims,

In a world filled with hardship, conflict, and suffering, our duty is to be sources of mercy. We must avoid ظلم (oppression), ظلم in our speech, actions, and dealings. We must stand for justice, but with wisdom and compassion.

Let us remember: mercy does not weaken a person — it elevates them. The strongest people are those who control their anger and forgive others for the sake of Allah.

Let us strive to:

Help those in need

Speak kindly

Forgive those who wrong us

Spread peace in our communities

And let us send peace and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who embodied mercy in its purest form.

Dua:

O Allah, make us among those who are merciful to others.

O Allah, fill our hearts with compassion and remove hardness from them.

O Allah, relieve the suffering of those in hardship across the world.

O Allah, guide us to follow the example of Your Messenger ﷺ in mercy and character.

Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and kindness… so remember Allah, He will remember you.
