Khutbah Title: Allah Loves Those Who Forgive Others

The phrase “Allah loves those who forgive others” is a profound teaching from the Qur’an and Sunnah that highlights one of the highest moral virtues in Islam. 

This statement emphasizes that forgiveness is a quality beloved by Allah. It is not just a good social habit, but an act of spiritual obedience and moral excellence. Forgiveness involves:

Letting go of anger and resentment toward someone who has wronged you.

Choosing mercy over revenge even when you have the power to retaliate.

Maintaining peace and goodwill in personal, family, and community relationships.

Here is a well-structured Jumu’ah Khutbah based on the theme 

“Allah Loves Those Who Forgive Others”:

First Khutbah.

Alhamdulillah, we praise Allah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whomsoever He leaves astray, none can guide.

I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.

O servants of Allah! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except in a state of Islam.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam,

Our topic today is about a noble quality that many people struggle with — forgiveness.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى commands us in the Qur’an:

> “…those who restrain anger and pardon people — and Allah loves the doers of good.” (Surah Aal-Imran 3:134)

Reflect on this verse carefully. Allah mentions:

Those who control their anger

Those who forgive others

And then He says: Allah loves them

What greater honor can a believer seek than the love of Allah?

In our daily lives, we are hurt by others — through words, actions, betrayal, or ظلم (injustice). It is easy to hold grudges, to seek revenge, or to cut ties. But Islam teaches us something higher, something nobler.

Allah says:

> “Repel evil with that which is better…” (Surah Fussilat 41:34)

This means: respond to harm with goodness.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was the greatest example of forgiveness. When he conquered Makkah — after years of persecution, torture, and exile — he stood before those who harmed him and said:

> “Go, for you are free.”

No revenge. No punishment. Only forgiveness.

Dear Muslims,

Forgiveness is not weakness. It is strength. It is ایمان (faith). It is trust that Allah will give you something better than what you lost.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

> “Charity does not decrease wealth, and Allah increases a servant in honor when he forgives…” (Muslim)

When you forgive:

Allah raises your status

Allah purifies your heart

Allah grants you peace

Holding grudges only harms you — it fills your heart with anger, stress, and darkness.

So forgive — not because people deserve it, but because Allah deserves your obedience.

I say these words of mine, and I ask Allah for forgiveness for me and for you. So seek His forgiveness — indeed, He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Second Khutbah:

Alhamdulillah, all praise is due to Allah. We thank Him, we seek His forgiveness, and we return to Him in repentance.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Forgiveness is especially important within families, friendships, and the Muslim community.

How many relationships are broken today because people refuse to forgive?

Allah says:

> “Let them pardon and overlook. Would you not love that Allah should forgive you?” (Surah An-Nur 24:22).

Ask yourself honestly: Do you want Allah to forgive you?

Then forgive others.

No one among us is perfect. We all make mistakes. Just as we hope Allah overlooks our faults, we must overlook the faults of others.

Dear believers,

Make it a habit:

Forgive quickly

Let go of grudges

Pray for those who hurt you

And remember: the one who forgives today will be forgiven tomorrow by Allah.

O Allah, make us among those who forgive others.

O Allah, purify our hearts from hatred and anger.

O Allah, grant us Your love and make us among Al-Muhsinin.

O Allah, forgive us, our parents, and the entire Ummah.

Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and He forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression. He admonishes you so that you may take heed.
