Jos Muslim Community Mourns Turakin Jos North, Appoints Successors to Key Leadership Positions

The Muslim community in Jos, Plateau State, has announced the death of its leader, Alhaji Garba Abdulkadir, popularly known as Turakin Jos North, while congratulating new leaders appointed to occupy some of the positions he held before his death.

Abdulkadir died on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

Until his death, he served as the Leader of the Jos Muslim Ummah, Deputy Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Plateau State Chapter, Chairman of the Jos Central Mosque Management Council, and Patron of the state’s Musabaqah Foundation for Qur’anic Competition.

In a condolence statement signed by the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, Sheikh Ghazali Ismail Adam, and the Makama of Jos North, Alhaji Sani Mu’azu, on behalf of the Muslim community, his death was described as a significant loss to his family and the entire Muslim Ummah.

The community praised his years of dedicated service, exemplary leadership and commitment to peaceful coexistence, saying his contributions would remain an enduring part of his legacy.

It added that his passing had created a major leadership vacuum, particularly at a time when unity, wisdom and collective responsibility were essential.

The Muslim community also prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

Meanwhile, the community congratulated Alhaji Sani Mudi on his confirmation as the substantive Chairman of the Jos Central Mosque Management Council.

Mudi was confirmed on October 29, 2026, after initially serving in an acting capacity following his appointment on October 10.

The community expressed confidence in his ability to use his experience and years of service to strengthen the council and promote the welfare of Muslims in the state.

It also congratulated Alhaji Ibrahim Sale Hassan on his emergence as the new Deputy Chairman of JNI in Plateau State.

Hassan was selected through what the community described as a peaceful and transparent process supervised by the Emir of Wase and Chairman of JNI in the state, His Royal Highness, Dr Mohammed Sambo Haruna.

He succeeds the late Abdulkadir in the position.

The community urged the new JNI deputy chairman to uphold the legacy of his predecessor, strengthen cooperation among Muslim organisations and work closely with the Emir of Wase to promote unity and the welfare of Muslims across Plateau State.

It further called on members of the Muslim community to support the newly appointed leaders, emphasising the importance of unity, consultation, mutual respect and continuity of service.

The statement stressed that leadership was a trust from Almighty Allah and that the strength of the Muslim community depended on unity, mutual understanding and collective responsibility.

It concluded with prayers for Allah's guidance and protection for the new leaders, as well as lasting peace and harmony in Plateau State.
