Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the state’s 21 local government areas, charging them to prioritise service delivery, accountability and responsible management of public resources.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Soludo urged the new council leaders to take their oath of office seriously and make it a constant reminder of their responsibilities to the people.
The governor told the chairmen that their positions were a call to serve, urging them to put aside personal expectations and immediately focus on the responsibilities before them.
Soludo said the clock had started ticking from the moment they assumed office and stressed that they would be held accountable for how they used their time and public resources.
He also urged them to study the handover notes left by their predecessors and carefully assess the assets and liabilities they had inherited.
The governor encouraged the new council leaders to introduce innovative ideas while ensuring that their actions remained within the law.
He further highlighted provisions in the new local government laws that allow councils to pool resources to manage common financial obligations more effectively.
The swearing-in followed the local government elections held across Anambra State on August 30, 2026.
