Shettima Leads Nigerian Delegation to Ethiopia on Nutrition Mission

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead a government-to-government peer exchange aimed at strengthening nutrition programmes and improving nutrition delivery in Nigeria.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Nkwocha, Shettima is visiting Ethiopia at the invitation of the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is leading efforts to promote a multi-sectoral approach to improving nutrition.

The Vice President is expected to participate in the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, which will provide an opportunity for officials from both countries to share experiences on developing effective nutrition programmes at the federal, state and local government levels.

During the visit, the Nigerian delegation will also study Ethiopia’s government-led initiatives designed to improve nutrition outcomes and strengthen food security.

The delegation is scheduled to visit several establishments involved in nutrition and agricultural development, including a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia, the “Bounty of the Basket” Training Centre and households in Mojo, as well as Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.

Shettima is accompanied by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.

Other members of the delegation include the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Abubakar.

The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja after completing his engagements in Addis Ababa.
