Seven Killed as Israeli Strikes Hit University and Other Sites in Gaza

At least seven Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, including air strikes on the Islamic University campus in Gaza City, according to medical sources and Palestinian reports.

Three security guards were killed in an Israeli air strike on the university campus on Sunday, marking the second attack on the institution within a few hours.

Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud, who reported from the scene shortly after the attack, described the destruction as extensive, saying debris and blood covered the ground following the strike.

Earlier, an Israeli drone attack on the same campus injured seven female students, one of whom sustained serious injuries and was transferred to a nearby field hospital for treatment.

More Casualties Reported Across Gaza

In southern Gaza, two people were killed in Israeli shelling in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, according to the Nasser Medical Complex. Several others were injured, including a child.

Another Palestinian was reportedly killed in an Israeli drone strike east of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that another person was killed and several others injured in an attack on al-Rashid Street, near Hamad Hospital in northern Gaza.

The attacks have further heightened concerns over civilian safety as violence continues across the territory.

Concerns Over Attacks on Educational Institutions

The Popular Resistance Committees in Palestine condemned the attacks on the Islamic University, urging mediators and international guarantors to intervene and prevent further violations.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) estimates that nearly 95 per cent of higher education campuses in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged since the war began in October 2023.

According to Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud, most buildings at the Islamic University had already been destroyed before Sunday's attacks, leaving only a few partially standing.

The latest strikes have raised further concerns about the safety of students and educational facilities in Gaza.

Gaza Death Toll Continues to Rise

Figures released by Gaza's Ministry of Health indicate that at least 1,551 Palestinians have been killed and 5,573 injured since the ceasefire that began in October 2025.

The ministry puts the overall death toll from Israel's military campaign in Gaza since October 2023 at 74,544, with at least 175,692 people injured.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue to control or restrict access to nearly two-thirds of the Gaza Strip, according to the report.

Residents are also facing worsening food shortages amid continued restrictions on border crossings and reduced international funding for humanitarian assistance.

The latest attacks have renewed concerns about civilian protection, the destruction of educational infrastructure and the deteriorating humanitarian situation across Gaza.
