A new nationwide poll has found that nearly 70 percent of Americans believe the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran is not worth fighting, marking a significant increase in opposition to the conflict since July.
The survey, conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and released on Thursday, showed that 69 percent of US adults said the war in Iran had not been worth fighting, while 71 percent disapproved of President Donald Trump’s handling of Iran.
The poll surveyed more than 2,000 adults across the United States.
The findings also revealed growing concerns over the US economy and rising living costs. Only 17 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, while 26 percent approved of his overall handling of the economy.
Concern over fuel prices has also increased, with about half of those surveyed saying they are highly worried about being able to afford filling their vehicles with fuel, compared with 39 percent in July. Around half also expressed serious concern about being able to afford food.
The poll was released as Trump began campaigning ahead of the November midterm elections, with the war in Iran and its economic consequences becoming major issues among voters.
Despite the economic concerns, about two-thirds of Republicans surveyed said higher-than-usual prices were caused by factors outside Trump’s control, while roughly one-third attributed the price increases directly to his policies.
More than half of all respondents said the US economy and the country as a whole were worse off since Trump returned to office in 2025.
Asked whether the unpopular war could hurt his Republican Party in the November elections, Trump said it was possible but argued that the conflict should ultimately benefit his party because, in his view, Iran would not obtain a nuclear weapon.
Trump also rejected recent negative polling, describing pollsters as “corrupt” and saying the unfavorable polls were “fake.” He further claimed that he would defeat any potential opponent by 20 percentage points if an election were held today.
