British-Iranian Man Held Over Alleged Terror Plot Near UK Airbase

British police have arrested a 27-year-old dual British-Iranian national in connection with an alleged security incident at the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford base in southwest England.

Counter Terrorism Policing said the man was arrested in central London on Thursday on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. A second man, a 26-year-old British national, was also questioned under caution as part of the investigation.

The arrests are linked to an incident at RAF Fairford on Sunday, when five men in their 20s from London were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and terrorism-related offences. They were later released on bail.

Police said the investigation remains complex, with specialist teams pursuing several lines of inquiry, including possible foreign-state involvement.

Authorities said no explosives were found in vehicles parked near the airbase, although police recovered a quantity of petrol.

The incident has raised questions over a possible link to Iran. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were strong indications that Iran could be involved. However, Iran has strongly denied the allegation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected the claims, while Iran's embassy in London described suggestions linking Tehran to those arrested as “fabricated speculations”.

RAF Fairford, located about 160 kilometres west of London, has been used by US military aircraft during conflicts in the Middle East. Since March, US forces have reportedly used the base for operations against Iran.

Despite the latest arrest, British authorities have not announced any charges against the suspects, and police have not publicly explained the exact nature of the security threat.

The investigation remains ongoing.
