105 Palestinians Killed in Gaza Strike Set for Burial After Recovery

Palestinians are preparing to bury the remains of 105 people who were killed in an Israeli air attack on Gaza City in October 2023.

The victims were killed on October 25, 2023, when a series of Israeli air strikes involving at least 20 bombs destroyed the seven-storey Al Taj 3 building and several other residential buildings in the Yarmouk Square area.

According to Gaza’s General Directorate of Civil Defence, the remains will be transported in coffins during a funeral procession involving family members before being buried at Sheikh Radwan Cemetery, northwest of Gaza City.

The Civil Defence said the recovery operation was conducted in coordination with an Egyptian committee.

Civil Defence operations director Abdul al-Majdalawi said it had been impossible to reach the bodies immediately after the attack because heavy machinery used by rescue teams had been targeted.

Osama Sharaf, whose family was among those affected, said 37 members of his family were killed in the attack. He said 16 additional bodies, including those of his parents and siblings, were recovered during the latest operation.

The recovery operation was described by an Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza City as the fifth-largest of its kind since the war began in October 2023, based on the number of bodies recovered.
