Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is set to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he will engage with global leaders, development partners and international organisations on opportunities to attract investment and support development in the state.
The 2026 UN General Assembly is themed “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.” Discussions at the gathering will focus on issues including the Sustainable Development Goals, climate action, pandemic response, racial justice and nuclear disarmament.
According to the report, Governor Lawal’s participation will provide an opportunity to highlight Zamfara’s development priorities and seek partnerships in areas such as security, economic growth, education, healthcare and sustainable development.
His programme is expected to begin on September 18 with participation in a High-Level Executive Global Roundtable Side Event and the SDG Moment.
On September 21, Lawal is scheduled to speak at a high-level side event organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), titled “From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts.”
The event will also feature the launch of the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030, aimed at strengthening strategic partnerships and attracting investment to support peace, security and development across the region.
Other events on the governor’s schedule include the SDG Roundtable Discussion 2026, the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, the African-Caribbean High-Level Interactive Dialogue, and the Nigeria Investment Forum.
The engagements are expected to provide platforms for discussing development priorities and exploring international partnerships that could support Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
