Wike Vows to Resign as FCT Minister if Tinubu Loses FCT, Rivers in 2027

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said he will resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said his continued stay in office would depend on his ability to deliver electoral support for President Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said.

He added that if Tinubu loses both the FCT and Rivers State, he would submit his resignation on January 17, 2027, a day after the presidential election.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” he stated.

Wike also disclosed that a multi-party coalition was being formed in the FCT to support candidates across various elective positions.

He reiterated his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and endorsed candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives.

“For the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike said, while urging supporters to work together to secure electoral victories across the territory.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the report.
