At least 22 US military personnel have reportedly died during the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran, four more than the number publicly listed by the Pentagon, according to The Washington Post.
The newspaper cited five unidentified US officials who said the actual number of military fatalities was at least 22. Another official said some of the unreported deaths were not directly linked to the months-long conflict but involved US personnel stationed in the Middle East during the ongoing hostilities.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth rejected the report, describing it as a “complete LIE” in a post on X.
The Washington Post said the Pentagon had declined to answer questions about the reported discrepancy in casualty figures.
Reuters reported that the Pentagon's publicly available data listed 18 military fatalities, while the Washington Post's sources put the number at at least 22.
