Two Injured as Israeli Shelling Hits Southern Lebanon

Two people were injured after Israeli artillery shelled areas in southern Lebanon, while Israeli forces separately advanced towards border towns and clashed with Lebanese soldiers.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, the two victims were wounded in shelling in Chaqra, in the Bint Jbeil district of Nabatieh Governorate, and were taken to Tebnin Hospital for treatment.

Israeli forces also shelled Wadi Nahla, near Shuqra. In Deir Mimas, Israeli troops withdrew from the outskirts of the town after advancing earlier and facing a standoff with Lebanese army forces.

The confrontation began when two Israeli tanks moved along a road towards Deir Mimas and stopped near a dirt barricade where Lebanese military vehicles were stationed.

The Lebanese army said Israeli forces approached a temporary observation post established on September 10 and used sound bombs nearby. Lebanese troops then reinforced the position and went on alert.

According to Lebanese state media, Israeli forces later withdrew to their position in nearby Tell en-Nhas, while Lebanese soldiers returned to their main base after coordination with a US-backed mechanism responsible for managing tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

Elsewhere, Israeli forces advanced from al-Tiri towards the outskirts of Hadatha in the Bint Jbeil district. Artillery strikes were also reported in al-Mansouri and Majdal Zoun.

Lebanese state media further reported that Israeli forces set fire to a public hospital in Meiss el-Jabal, although details about the damage and possible casualties were not immediately available.

A US-brokered framework agreement reached in June calls for Israel to gradually withdraw from Lebanese territory and for the Lebanese army to take control of areas vacated by Israeli forces. Despite the agreement, Israeli attacks and military presence have continued in parts of southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed at least 4,386 people and injured 12,407 others. Since the broader conflict began in October 2023, the ministry reports 8,953 deaths and 30,643 injuries from Israeli attacks in Lebanon.
