US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States had reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that would give Washington permanent control over security and other security-related needs in Greenland.
Trump made the claim as discussions continue over the strategic Arctic island and its security arrangements.
According to Reuters, Trump said the agreement involved the United States, Denmark and Greenland, although details of the arrangement were not immediately provided.
Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has been the subject of increased international attention because of its strategic location in the Arctic.
The development comes amid continued US interest in Greenland and discussions over Arctic security and defence.
