President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris as Nigeria and France reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Macron hosted Tinubu to a private dinner at the Élysée Palace on Thursday night, according to the Presidency.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the meeting in a post on his verified X account on Friday, describing the engagement as a reflection of the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
The meeting took place during Tinubu’s three-week annual leave in Europe. The President spent the first part of his vacation in London before travelling to Paris on Sunday for the second phase of his leave.
The Presidency had previously described the trip as a working vacation, with Tinubu expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the break.
Nigeria and France maintain cooperation in several areas, including trade, investment, security, energy, innovation, culture and the creative economy.
Tinubu and Macron have held several high-level engagements in recent years, including their meeting during Tinubu’s June 2023 visit to Paris for the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact.
The latest meeting further highlights the ongoing diplomatic relationship between Abuja and Paris, with both countries seeking to expand cooperation and strengthen their strategic partnership.
