Three people have been killed and four others injured in a shooting at an after-hours strip club in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Police said officers responded to the incident shortly after 7:20 a.m. local time on Sunday and arrived at the scene within four minutes. They found three people suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said the shooting followed an altercation at the venue, which is located on a predominantly residential street.
“An altercation occurred, and as a result, individuals decided to settle it with gun violence,” Bettison said.
The four injured victims — two men and two women in their 20s and 30s — were taken to nearby hospitals. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The three people who died, all believed to be over the age of 30, had not been publicly identified as of Sunday.
Police had not announced any arrests, although investigators said they had developed leads. Authorities also said there was no continuing threat to the wider public.
The location was reportedly already known to police, with officers receiving seven calls related to the address since the beginning of the year. An investigation into the property was also ongoing.
Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield said the city would intensify efforts to shut down illegal after-hours operations, whether they were being run from residential properties or commercial establishments.
She said authorities would do everything possible to prevent such operations from continuing in Detroit communities and neighbourhoods.
