Prominent Kano Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, has asked a Federal High Court to order the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to replace Ibrahim Ali Amin, popularly known as Little, with his name as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Kano State election.
Khalil, who is also Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulama, is challenging the submission of Amin Little’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The cleric had contested the ADC governorship primary and was declared the winner by the party under its then-state chairman, Musa Ungogo. However, following the dissolution of the party’s state executive, the ADC submitted the name of Ibrahim Ali Amin Little as its candidate instead.
Little is described in the report as a close political associate of Atiku Abubakar, the ADC presidential candidate.
Khalil, through his counsel, AA Abubakar, told the court that all the defendants had been duly served with the court processes.
Counsel to Amin Little, who is the second defendant in the case, also confirmed that his client had been served.
The court is expected to determine the legal issues surrounding the party’s nomination and the validity of the candidate submitted to INEC.
