Russian forces launched a major overnight missile and drone offensive across several regions of Ukraine on Tuesday, killing at least three people and injuring six others, Ukrainian officials said.
The attacks targeted industrial facilities, energy infrastructure and other critical sites, with strikes reported in the Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv and Poltava regions.
In Dnipro, three people were killed and six others wounded after missiles, drones and artillery damaged business and warehouse facilities, according to regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 212 drones, four cruise missiles and an unspecified number of Oniks anti-ship and ballistic missiles during the overnight attacks.
The strikes also disrupted electricity supplies. An attack on an energy facility in the northern Chernihiv region left nearly 100,000 consumers without power.
Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed that its forces carried out large-scale attacks, saying they targeted industrial and military facilities, fuel and energy infrastructure, port facilities and vessels being used by Ukraine’s military.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones reportedly attacked Russia’s Samara region along the Volga River, killing one person and injuring four others, according to the regional governor. The area contains strategically important facilities, including oil refineries.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air-defence systems intercepted and destroyed 297 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions.
Zelenskyy Pushes for Peace Talks at UN Summit
The attacks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where efforts to end the war are expected to feature prominently in discussions among world leaders.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine was preparing to sign a “drone deal” aimed at strengthening its air-defence capabilities and securing additional funding for the war effort.
He said his priority remained bringing peace closer and protecting Ukrainian lives, adding that security proposals and de-escalation measures were being discussed.
Zelenskyy is expected to hold about 20 meetings during his visit, including talks with US President Donald Trump, European leaders, US lawmakers, international organisations and representatives of major American companies and think tanks.
He met French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday and is expected to meet Trump on Tuesday.
Macron had earlier met Trump, after which he said France and the United States had agreed to work together toward a moratorium on attacks against energy networks and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are both scheduled to address the UN General Assembly later this week.
