Russian Drone Strike Kills Two at Ukraine-Moldova Border Crossing

A Russian drone attack on a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova in the southern Odesa region has killed at least two people and injured three others, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday.

The attack struck the Starokozache border crossing, causing a large fire and temporarily disrupting passenger and vehicle traffic. Ukrainian authorities said several vehicles were damaged in the strike.

Oleh Kiper, governor of the Odesa region, confirmed that two civilians were killed and three others wounded.

The attack was part of a wider overnight Russian aerial assault on Ukraine, including strikes on the capital, Kyiv. Emergency services reported fires in several areas of the city, although no casualties were initially reported there.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a Russian drone struck a 16-storey residential building early Wednesday, prompting emergency crews to respond.

Russian air attacks also damaged port, transport and civilian infrastructure in the Mykolaiv region, where one person was killed and several others were injured, according to local authorities.

Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces had struck a Ukrainian cargo vessel carrying military equipment in the Black Sea while it was heading towards Odesa. It also claimed to have targeted a warehouse in Kyiv allegedly linked to a drone-manufacturing company.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported Ukrainian drone attacks in the southern city of Novorossiysk, where four people were killed. Local officials said drone debris fell near businesses and residential buildings.

Ukraine confirmed attacks in the Novorossiysk area, with its Unmanned Systems Forces commander, Robert Brovdi, saying military vessels at a naval base had been hit. He claimed that missile carriers were among the vessels destroyed or damaged, although he did not provide details on the number of ships affected.

Novorossiysk is an important Russian Black Sea port and a major hub for the export of oil, petroleum products and grain.

The latest attacks come amid continuing Russian and Ukrainian strikes as efforts to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war remain ongoing.
