Police Investigate Suspected Terror Incident Near RAF Fairford Base in UK

Five men have been arrested after a suspected terrorist incident near RAF Fairford, a British military base in Gloucestershire, southern England, which has been used by the United States during its war against Iran.

British counter-terrorism police said the men were arrested early Sunday after residents reported three suspicious vehicles travelling towards the airbase around 12:45am local time.

Police initially arrested the suspects over alleged offences under the Explosives Act before re-arresting them on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. They remain in custody, while authorities have not released their identities or nationalities.

A 400-metre security cordon was established around the area, while bomb disposal officers examined the vehicles. About 85 households in the nearby village of Whelford were advised to evacuate.

RAF Fairford hosts the United States Air Force’s 501st Combat Support Wing and has previously been used by US forces involved in military operations against Iran, including the deployment of B-1 and B-2 bombers.

US President Donald Trump said the suspects had allegedly been planning to cause significant damage at the airbase, adding that US and UK authorities had been working together on the investigation.

However, British officials have not confirmed any link between the suspects and Iran. UK Defence Minister Wes Streeting said it would be “irresponsible to speculate” about Iranian involvement.

Iran has previously threatened US military facilities that participated in attacks against it. Since the conflict began on February 28, Iranian forces have targeted military facilities in several Gulf and Middle Eastern countries.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and further details about the suspects and their alleged plans are expected to emerge.
