Makkah Grand Mosque Muezzin Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani Dies

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, a muezzin at the Grand Mosque in Makkah (Masjid Al-Haram), has died.

His death was announced early Monday by Inside the Haramain, an account that reports on activities at Islam’s two holiest mosques.

Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani performed his final Adhan (call to prayer) at Masjid Al-Haram on Monday, 11 Rabi Al-Awwal 1448 AH.

He was formally appointed as a muezzin of the Grand Mosque in 1439 AH (2017–2018). His funeral prayer is scheduled to take place after the Asr prayer on Monday at Masjid Al-Haram, after which he will be buried at Al-Mu‘alla Cemetery in Makkah.

According to reports about his life, Sheikh Ibrahim was born in Madinah in 1397 AH (1976). He grew up in a religious family, with his paternal grandfather being a Qur’an memoriser who influenced his early life.

At the age of 15, he began serving as a muezzin at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah. He later resumed the role in 1428 AH (2007–2008) at Masjid Al-Maddah before being appointed to Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah.

Sheikh Ibrahim was known for his familiarity with both the Madinah and Makkah styles of the Adhan. He also held an academic qualification in Qur’anic Studies.

The announcement of his death expressed prayers for Allah to forgive him, have mercy on him, raise his rank and reward him for his service in calling Muslims to prayer at the Sacred House of Allah.
