The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the temporary shutdown of its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) amid the ongoing admission exercise into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The board said the platform became unavailable due to technical challenges linked to its hosting arrangements.
The disruption comes at a critical period when universities, polytechnics and colleges of education are processing admission offers, while candidates are checking their admission status.
In a statement issued by JAMB’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the board said it had begun discussions with the organisation hosting the CAPS platform to identify the cause of the problem and restore the system.
JAMB acknowledged the importance of CAPS to the admission process, noting that institutions, candidates and other stakeholders depend on the platform for admission-related activities.
The board assured candidates and institutions that efforts were underway to restore the system to full functionality as soon as possible.
JAMB apologised for the inconvenience caused by the outage and appealed to candidates and institutions to remain patient while the technical issue is being resolved.
The board also said it would review the circumstances surrounding the disruption after the system is restored, with the aim of putting measures in place to prevent similar interruptions in the future.
JAMB said further updates would be provided as restoration efforts progress.
