Iran’s armed forces have declared their readiness to respond to any renewed attack by the United States, warning that Washington would face greater damage if it launches another assault on the country.
Iranian state media quoted army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia as saying on Sunday that the country’s armed forces were fully prepared for a possible confrontation.
“Our armed forces are fully prepared for confrontation, and the enemy will suffer greater damage if it launches another attack against Iran,” Akraminia said.
His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the ongoing fighting.
Meanwhile, Iranian Army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami said the war had reached a critical and decisive stage, stressing that Tehran would not accept circumstances that prevent Iran from trading while foreign powers continue to use strategic waterways in the region.
“If Iran cannot trade, if Iran cannot live, no one will be able to trade or live,” Hatami said.
He added that the Strait of Hormuz represented Iran’s dignity and honour and would not be allowed to remain available for the country’s enemies to use while Iranians were denied access to trade.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major global shipping route through which a significant volume of international energy supplies passes, making tensions around the waterway a major concern for global markets.
