Iran: Reports on Qatar-Mediated Negotiations Have No Basis

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, has dismissed reports claiming to reveal details of Qatar-mediated consultations between Tehran and Washington, describing them as “baseless speculation.”

Speaking to Iran’s IRNA news agency in New York on Monday, Baghaei said an Iranian delegation met with Qatari representatives on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly to discuss recent regional developments.

He said the Qatari side presented its views and assessments, while the Iranian delegation conveyed Tehran’s position and reiterated its commitment to diplomacy.

Baghaei stressed that Iran would continue to participate in diplomatic efforts in good faith while defending what he described as the country’s national interests against excessive demands and acts of aggression.

He rejected media reports purporting to disclose the content of the consultations, saying that no detailed discussions on the issues had taken place.

The spokesman said contacts between Iran and the United States during the UN General Assembly had been conducted through mediators rather than through direct negotiations.

According to Iran’s publicly stated position, Tehran’s conditions include an end to the war on all fronts, a halt to US military actions, the lifting of the naval blockade and economic restrictions, the release of Iranian assets that remain blocked or restricted, and the establishment of a safe shipping arrangement in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also confirmed that another meeting had taken place with Qatari intermediaries in New York. He said Tehran was awaiting an official response from Washington through the same channel.

The Iranian delegation was scheduled to leave New York for Tehran on Monday night.
