G7 Ministers Demand Houthis End Military Actions Against Saudi Arabia

The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) nations have condemned continued attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, describing them as “unacceptable.”

In a statement issued after an informal meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the ministers urged the Houthis to immediately stop all military actions, threats and attacks targeting civilian shipping.

The G7 ministers also called on the Houthis to return to the political process and engage in negotiations in good faith.

They further urged Iran to stop providing weapons and support to the Houthis, accusing Tehran of violating previous United Nations Security Council resolutions.

According to the ministers, Iran’s support for the Houthis represents a dangerous escalation that could disrupt international trade and increase global instability.

The latest escalation in Yemen comes after several years of relative calm following a UN-brokered ceasefire in 2022 between the Iran-aligned Houthis and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.
