Fire Outbreak at Chinese Textile Factory Claims Eight Lives

Eight people were killed and one person injured after a fire broke out at a textile factory in Foshan, in southern China’s Guangdong province, Chinese state media reported on Monday.

The fire started at about 3:12 p.m. local time on Sunday in a two-storey building inside an industrial park. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within about an hour.

The damaged building was used for production activities, including denim fabric washing, and the fire did not spread to nearby areas.

Reuters verified a social media video showing thick smoke rising from the building, while a slightly taller building nearby appeared unaffected.

Search-and-rescue operations have been completed, while authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
