Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said he bears no hatred or resentment towards former colleagues, friends and family members who have chosen not to support him during his current circumstances.
El-Rufai made the remarks in a statement titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” which he shared on his X account on Wednesday.
The former governor said that over the years, he had supported people and various causes based on his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, personal values and conscience, rather than expecting praise, gratitude or anything in return.
He acknowledged that those he had supported were free to decide how they would respond to his present situation, saying some might speak out, remain silent, distance themselves from him or even deny their previous relationships.
According to him, he does not intend to judge anyone simply because their response differs from what he or others may have expected.
El-Rufai said the difficulties he had experienced in recent months had also made him reflect on some of his relationships, noting that adversity can reveal the true nature of relationships.
He stressed, however, that such reflection should not be interpreted as condemnation or reproach.
The former governor said he had no regrets about supporting people or causes whenever he believed it was the right thing to do, adding that the actions of others would not make him abandon the principles that had guided him.
He also said he would not seek revenge or retribution over any perceived injustice, ingratitude or injury against him.
“Ultimate accountability belongs to Almighty Allah, and I leave that judgment to Him, in this world and in the Hereafter,” he said.
El-Rufai concluded that his priority was to remain at peace with his conscience and with Almighty Allah, while leaving posterity to judge the choices people make.
