Amni, TotalEnergies Approve $800m Offshore Gas Project in Nigeria

Nigeria’s state-owned oil company, NNPC Ltd, has announced that local oil and gas producer Amni International and French energy giant TotalEnergies have reached a final investment decision (FID) on an $800 million offshore natural gas project.

The Ima Gas Project, located on Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 112 and 117, is expected to produce about 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day at peak capacity.

Gas from the project will supply Nigeria LNG’s Train 7 expansion, helping increase the Bonny Island plant’s production capacity from 22 million tonnes to 30 million tonnes per year.

NNPC said the investment was made possible by oil-sector reforms introduced under President Bola Tinubu, including fiscal incentives for gas projects, streamlined contracting procedures and measures aimed at reducing development costs.

According to NNPC, the Ima project is the fourth major gas development to reach FID since the 2024 oil-sector reforms.

The project is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s domestic gas supply and support the expansion of the country’s liquefied natural gas production.
