Yemen Houthis Claim Attack on Ship Near Saudi Arabia

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement says it attacked a vessel near Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea port city of Yanbu on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group carried out the attack. Saudi shipping company Bahri later confirmed that one of its vessels, Amzan, was involved in a maritime incident in the Red Sea.

Bahri said all crew members were safe and no injuries were reported. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also said a tanker had been struck by an unidentified projectile about 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu. No environmental damage was reported.

Yanbu is a major Saudi oil port on the Red Sea and has become increasingly important for Saudi oil exports because of disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.

The Houthis have recently threatened Saudi-linked shipping and have claimed attacks on Saudi oil facilities and vessels in the Red Sea.
