Yemen: Houthi Missile Attack on al-Makha Kills at Least Four

Yemen’s internationally recognised government says at least four civilians were killed after Houthi forces launched a missile attack on the Red Sea port city of al-Makha (Mocha) on Friday.

The government said the Houthis fired six ballistic missiles at the port, targeting what officials described as civilian infrastructure and national assets. Several fishing boats were reportedly set on fire.

A Yemeni military official told AFP that the death toll could be higher, saying at least eight people, including two security personnel, were killed in the attack.

The Houthis acknowledged carrying out the strike, saying they targeted military positions, weapons and warships belonging to Saudi-backed forces and what they called “mercenaries” in al-Makha.

The latest attack comes amid a sharp escalation between the Houthis and Yemen’s internationally recognised government, raising fears that the country could return to large-scale conflict after years of relative calm.

Separately, the Houthi-run SABA news agency reported that the group launched a drone attack against an Aramco facility in Najran, Saudi Arabia. The Houthis said the attack was in response to Saudi military aircraft operating over Yemen’s Saada governorate. Saudi authorities and Aramco had not immediately confirmed the reported attack.

The escalation is also unfolding amid heightened regional tensions linked to the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran, with the Houthis increasingly becoming a major front in the wider conflict.

The Houthis also claimed a separate drone attack on an Aramco facility in Najran, Saudi Arabia, saying it was retaliation for Saudi military aircraft operating over Yemen’s Saada governorate.

The reported attacks come amid wider regional tensions linked to the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran.
