The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced plans to establish Task Force Falcon Strike, its first multinational, multi-domain task force dedicated to one-way attack drones.
The new force will bring together the US and regional military partners to operate unmanned attack systems across air, land and maritime domains, including drones and unmanned systems designed to operate above, on and beneath the sea.
Falcon Strike builds on the experience of Task Force Scorpion Strike, launched nine months earlier as the US military’s first dedicated one-way attack-drone unit in the Middle East.
According to CENTCOM, Scorpion Strike has recorded several operational achievements, including the first launch of an aerial attack drone from a US Navy warship in December. The unit also deployed one-way unmanned aerial systems during Operation Epic Fury and used unmanned vessels in attacks against Iranian port facilities in July.
CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said Falcon Strike would build on Scorpion Strike’s achievements and take advantage of advances in unmanned technology among US regional allies and partners.
CENTCOM has already begun consultations with regional countries and plans to formally invite partners to join the new task force.
The command said the initiative is intended to strengthen cooperation and expand the deployment of attack-drone capabilities across the Middle East.
