Nigerians are set to gain easier access to two African countries as Chad and the Republic of Congo prepare to remove visa requirements for African nationals from January 1, 2027.
The move will allow Nigerian passport holders to travel to the two countries without obtaining an entry visa before departure, subject to applicable administrative and security requirements.
Chad President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno announced the decision as part of efforts to promote African integration and facilitate the free movement of people and goods.
Similarly, Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso announced that citizens of African countries would no longer require visas to enter Congo-Brazzaville from January 2027.
The policies are expected to boost intra-African travel, tourism, trade and regional integration, while supporting the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
The development means Nigerian travellers will have more options for visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel across Africa and beyond.
