Qatar Welcomes Saudi-Türkiye-Pakistan Mutual Defense Pact

Qatar has welcomed the new Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, describing the pact as a positive step toward strengthening regional security and stability.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed Al-Ansari, said Doha supports regional defense cooperation based on mutual respect, cooperation and good-neighborly relations.

“We welcome any regional cooperation that strengthens security, stability and defense among the countries of the region,” Al-Ansari said during a weekly press conference in Doha.

He noted that Qatar maintains strategic and fraternal relations with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, adding that regional security requires collective responsibility, coordination and cooperation.

The agreement was signed last Friday in Mecca by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be regarded as an attack against all three. The agreement also provides for greater defense cooperation, including support for each other’s security, cooperation in the defense industry and improved military interoperability.

The three countries say the agreement is not directed against any specific country but is intended to strengthen collective deterrence and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
