The recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables has reached the final pre-training stage, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has disclosed.
Disu said comprehensive training programmes were being developed based on an improved curriculum and international best practices to prepare the new recruits for effective policing.
The IGP made the disclosure on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., while representing the Nigeria Police Force at the 2nd United States-Nigeria Country of Particular Concern Joint Working Group meeting.
He said the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to strengthening counterterrorism operations, community protection, human rights and the rule of law.
The meeting reviewed progress made under the CPC Joint Working Group Roadmap between April and June 2026 and explored opportunities for stronger cooperation between Nigeria and the United States on security and law-enforcement challenges.
Disu also highlighted ongoing counter-kidnapping and anti-banditry operations, increased police presence in vulnerable communities, improved early-warning systems and efforts to protect and facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons.
He stressed that community engagement remained essential to national security, noting that the police were strengthening cooperation with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other key stakeholders.
According to him, public trust, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence are critical to achieving sustainable security across Nigeria.
