The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), representing 81.50 per cent of registered voters in Osun State, have been collected ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to the commission, Osun has a total of 2,339,233 registered voters, while 426,842 uncollected PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria in line with established procedures.
INEC also said 6,101 voters who applied to replace damaged, defaced or lost PVCs printed downloadable copies of their voter cards.
The commission said a detailed breakdown of collected PVCs by polling unit had been published on its official website.
INEC assured political parties, civil society organisations, the media and residents of Osun State that it was fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified preparations for the poll, with thousands of police personnel expected to be deployed across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Official figures indicate that at least four police officers will be assigned to each of the state’s 3,673 polling units, in addition to personnel from other security agencies.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
