The Nigerian Army has confirmed an attempted unauthorised access to its official X (formerly Twitter) account, describing the incident as a cybersecurity breach.
The attempted hack reportedly occurred at about 5pm on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The Army said it immediately activated technical and protective measures to secure the account and prevent further compromise.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said efforts were underway to fully secure the affected account and restore exclusive administrative control.
The Army warned members of the public and the media to disregard any suspicious, misleading, unauthorised or unverified content posted through the affected account, stressing that such posts would not represent its official position.
The military urged the public to verify information through its other official communication channels while the incident is being resolved.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to information integrity, operational security and responsible communication, and thanked the public for its vigilance and cooperation.
