An Iranian professor of cardiology has won a gold medal at an international invention competition in Geneva, Switzerland, for developing an innovative method to improve transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) images.
Dr. Azin Alizadeh Asl, a cardiovascular specialist and professor at the Rajaei Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center in Tehran, received the award for her technique aimed at enhancing the clarity of TEE images. The innovation could help improve the accuracy of heart disease diagnosis and contribute to better treatment outcomes.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, the achievement represents a significant international scientific accomplishment in cardiovascular medicine.
Dr. Alizadeh Asl is also the founder of Iran’s cardio-oncology subspecialty fellowship programme and currently heads the Iranian Cardio-Oncology Association.
She has previously contributed several innovations to cardiovascular medicine, including work on Holter echocardiography and the management of cardiac toxicity. She is also credited with identifying left ventricular dyssynchrony as an early indicator of cardiotoxicity.
The Iranian physician has authored approximately 450 scientific papers and 30 specialised books. Her book Practical Cardiology previously received the international Doody Award.
She is also a member of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Elites Foundation.
