Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Iran attempted to assassinate one of his two sons, although he did not provide details about the alleged incident.
Netanyahu made the claim on Monday during a telephone interview with Israel’s Channel 14, saying that Iran had targeted one of his sons and tried to kill him.
The Israeli prime minister made the remarks while discussing reports that Israel’s domestic security agency, Shin Bet, had refused to provide round-the-clock protection for former army chief Gadi Eisenkot, who is reportedly running a close race with Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October 27 election.
Netanyahu said Eisenkot should receive continuous security protection, arguing that such protection was necessary because of the threat posed by Iran.
Netanyahu has two sons and a daughter. It remains unclear which of his sons he was referring to.
His elder son, Yair Netanyahu, 35, has spent extended periods in Miami since 2024 and has reportedly received Shin Bet protection. His stay in the United States has generated controversy in Israel over the cost of his security.
Some residents in south Florida have also expressed concerns that his presence could potentially make the area a target for attacks by Israel’s enemies.
Following Netanyahu’s comments, Israeli journalist Amit Segal said on his Telegram channel that the alleged assassination attempt had reportedly been known for months but had been subject to a gag order.
