Iran has announced that it is not currently engaged in any negotiations with the United States, despite recent speculation about possible diplomatic contacts.
Speaking on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran is instead holding discussions with Oman over a temporary safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. However, he stressed that any understanding reached with Oman alone would not be enough to reopen the strategic waterway.
Baghaei maintained that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz would remain unchanged as long as what he described as ongoing U.S. "aggression" continues.
The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent military confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, making any disruption a major concern for global energy markets.
Iran's latest position also contrasts with recent remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that diplomatic discussions with Tehran could take place, indicating that significant differences remain between the two sides over the prospects for renewed negotiations.
