Gunmen Kill Five in Reprisal Attack on Kogi Communities

At least five people have been killed after armed attackers invaded the communities of Abugi, Kuchinda, and Mikugi in the Kupa Kingdom of Lokoja Local Government Area, Kogi State.

According to reports, the violence was triggered by the alleged killing of an unarmed herder by a local vigilante member over suspected cattle rustling. The incident reportedly sparked a reprisal attack on the three communities, resulting in multiple deaths and heightened tension in the area.

The Kogi State Government has condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Kupa Kingdom.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo directed security agencies to take full control of the affected communities and restore law and order.

The governor also ordered the immediate arrest of the vigilante member accused of shooting the herder, as well as those responsible for the retaliatory attack, including the leader of the Hybrid Vigilante Group who is suspected of coordinating the assault.

The state government said it is working closely with security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to restore peace and prevent further violence across the kingdom.
