Google’s Gemini AI Assistant Surpasses One Billion Monthly Users

Google’s artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini, has surpassed one billion monthly users, marking a major milestone for the technology giant as competition in the global AI industry intensifies.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the achievement on Tuesday, describing Gemini as the company’s fastest-growing product and the 14th Google product to reach one billion users.

The milestone comes shortly after Google announced a major restructuring of its AI division. Despite the changes and the departure of several senior researchers, Google continues to expand Gemini across its ecosystem, including Search, Gmail, Google Maps and YouTube.

Google DeepMind, the division responsible for developing Gemini, has also faced leadership changes, while the company’s next flagship model, Gemini 3.5 Pro, has yet to be released after initially being expected in June.

Meanwhile, competition in the AI sector continues to grow, with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and China’s DeepSeek competing for users and market share.

OpenAI announced in July that its services had reached one billion users across its platforms, although it did not clarify whether the figure represented monthly or weekly users.

As major technology companies continue to invest heavily in artificial intelligence, Google’s massive user base remains one of its biggest advantages in the race to dominate the rapidly expanding AI market.
