At least six people have been killed and four others, including a 14-year-old, injured in a Ukrainian missile strike on Russia’s western Belgorod region, according to local authorities.
The attack struck the village of Koloskovo in the Valuysky district on Monday. Acting Belgorod Governor Alexander Shuvaev said a structure was burned and a vehicle was damaged. The village is located about 15 kilometres from Ukraine’s northeastern border.
Meanwhile, Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine killed at least four people and injured 19 others.
In Zaporizhia, at least two people were killed and four wounded, while Russian shelling in Sumy killed two people and injured another, according to emergency officials.
Russian strikes also injured people in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions. In Odesa, an attack damaged port infrastructure in the Izmail district and a civilian vessel flying the Togo flag. Fires caused by the attack were later extinguished.
The latest attacks came a day after Russia and Ukraine launched strikes deep inside each other’s territories, killing 19 people in total.
The escalation comes as front-line fighting remains largely stalled and US-backed efforts to end the war have been frozen. Both sides have intensified missile and drone attacks, contributing to a sharp rise in civilian casualties.
The United Nations reported that 437 civilians were killed in Ukraine in July, making it the deadliest month for civilians since May 2022. Russian authorities, meanwhile, reported 79 civilians killed in Ukrainian attacks in July.
