Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has rejected US President Donald Trump’s threat to launch what he described as the “most crushing economic operation ever” against Iran.
Araghchi said the US campaign was “doomed to failure”, arguing that Iran had faced similar threats and sanctions in the past without being forced to change its position.
He said previous US threats to impose what Washington called the most crippling sanctions in history had also failed.
“We’ve seen this movie before,” Araghchi said, describing the latest US pressure as the same old strategy under different leadership.
The comments come amid renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran over US economic pressure on Iran.
Araghchi’s remarks were made on August 21, 2026, according to Middle East Eye.
