Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger unity among Africans on the continent and people of African descent living around the world.
She made the call in a message marking the 2026 International Day for People of African Descent, celebrated under the theme: “People of African Descent: Recognition, Justice, and Development.”
The First Lady said the occasion was an opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage of people of African descent and recognise their significant contributions to human progress.
She stressed the importance of protecting fundamental human rights and creating opportunities for individuals to realise their full potential.
Senator Tinubu also urged Africans to strengthen their bonds with one another and with African-descendant communities across the world.
She called for greater efforts to preserve Africa’s cultural heritage for future generations while investing in education, empowerment and the well-being of the people.
“As Africans, we must continue to preserve our rich cultural heritage, strengthen unity across the continent and the diaspora, and invest in the education, empowerment, and well-being of our people,” she said.
The First Lady said continued cooperation and collective commitment to human rights, development and empowerment would help Africans and people of African descent achieve their full potential.
